\nAlong the Sipekne\u2019katik River”.<\/p>\n
Come join us as we take you on a most intimate and personal journey along the Sipekne\u2019katik River, which leads us to a sacred island known to the Mi\u2019kmaq as the traditional campsite of Glooscap’s grandmother. This is where we experience the vastness of what we are protecting and receive teachings from our Water Protectors and Grassroots Grandmothers.<\/p>\n
Since May 2016 Mi\u2019kmaq Water Protectors, supported by non-Indigenous allies, set up a treaty truck house along the banks of the Sipekne\u2019katik River near the Alton Gas brine-dumping site. The Treaty Truck House and Treaty Camp along the Sipekne’katik River was established through prayer and ceremony with grandmothers, women and men who are committed to the protection of the Water, Mother Earth and Treaty.<\/span><\/p>\n The dumping of millions of litres of brine into the Sipekne\u2019katik River system each day would devastate the river and all the life that depends on it.<\/p>\n Together we can save the Sipekne\u2019katik\/ City Cinema FilmPEI is proud to sponsor the PEI premiere of Eliza Knockwood’s “The Water Protectors’ Journey Along the Sipekne\u2019katik River”.
