IMAF 2012 Wraps

The Island Media Arts Festival 2012 is a wrap! Huge congrats and thanks to Dave Ward the Festival Director, Bill Harrington the Technical Director, The Volunteer Committee and the volunteers, The Selection Committee, and the amazing staff at The Guild and The Confed. Centre Gallery.

Thanks goes out to all the filmmakers whose work is the heart of the festival. With close to 100 films of all genres screened over the past week – PEI audiences got a wide breadth of perspective, insight, and flight of fancy.

The festival’s awards were handed out at the CBC Gala. Congrats to the recipients:

  • 2012 CBC 3-2-1 Award – Harmony Wagner (Director) and Jason Rogerson (Producer)
  • The Island Media Arts Co-op Audience Choice Award – Dan Caseley for Mr. Toesley and the Love Powered Space Machine.
  • The William F. White Filmmaker of the Year Award – John Hopkins
  • The Women in Film and Television Salute Award – Louise Lalonde

Tonight’s the Night

The Island Media Arts Festival is about to kick off it’s Opening Night Screenings in three locations across PEI simultaneously!

The Best of FAVE

We are very happy to announce the winner of FAVE The Film, Animation and Video Exhibit

For the animated video ‘The Nightly News’

The jury of IMAC members were very impressed by all the submissions and found that “The Nightly News” excelled for originality of storyline, quality of performance and quality of filming and editing.

The runner-up for ‘Best of FAVE’ was “Basketball” by Ryan Walsh and Carlos Bosco of Morell Regional High School.

Animate Your Life

Bring your ideas to life with stop motion animation!

The Island Media Arts Festival (a project of The Island Media Arts Co-op) and the Confederation Centre Art Gallery are teaming up to bring another free public film making workshop to Charlottetown. This year’s workshop will be a three day stop motion animation clinic where all ages are invited to come and create their own stop motion short to be screened at a special screening during the 2012 IMAF festival this May.

The workshop will be taught by B.J. McCarville and Dave Bennett, who will take participants through prop creation, story development, animating, basic computer editing and sound editing, during three days of intensive hands-on creation.

The workshop schedule is April 19 (6-9pm) , 20 (6-8pm) and 21 (1-4pm).

PEI Women at WMW

A crew of PEI filmmakers headed over on the weekend of March 9th to the second annual Women Making Waves conference in Halifax. WMW is hosted by Women in Film and Television – Atlantic Chapter and is a fantastic opportunity for women (and men) filmmakers to improve their skills, network with industry professionals, and strengthen the regional filmmaking community. PEI filmmakers in attendance this year were: JoDee Samuelson, Susan Rodgers, Cheryl Wagner, Harmony Wagner, Patti Larsen, Renee Laprise, Louise Lalonde, Gretha Rose, and Kristen Santos…most of whom are IMAC members! Way to represent!

LIGHTS! CAMERA! WORKSHOPS!

IMAC is hosting a series of workshops in locations across PEI for beginner and intermediate media artists in the areas of:

  • Editing
  • Motion Graphics
  • Digital Photography
  • After Effects

Cultural Capital Media Arts Legacy Series

The Cultural Capital Media Arts Legacy Series saw the production of 5 new films (all by IMAC members!) These films screened on Nov. 25th at the Confederation Centre. What a great night it was.
