WHO IS THIS BOOTCAMP FOR?

• EMERGING PRODUCERS with SOME EXPERIENCE/TRAINING – this is a great course to level up your skills

• Those with NO EXPERIENCE are welcome but you will need to prepare using our digital course (see below).


Last year FilmPEI ran a zoom version of the Intro to Producing program led by industry producer Walter Forsyth. This 16 hour entry level program gives participants a deep understanding of producing from building a pitch to taking a project to market. The the intention of this program is to train more PEI producers to support the creation of local content. 

With the new PEI Film Production Fund  now in place,  the PEI film sector is buzzing with opportunity! In order to accelerate the development of local producers we are offering the  Intro to Producing program again but this time participants will watch the EIGHT recorded videos of last year’s program. and then  the instructor Walter Forsyth will run a weekend Intro to Producing Bootcamp that will recap the digital program and offer new content.


Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Send info@filmpei.com an email telling us you are interested.

Step 2: We will send you a password for the video links. Sixteen (16) hours of the original program are recorded via zoom. These are the raw zoom files but they give you the information you will need for the next step.

Step 3:  September 10 to 12, 2021 (Friday to Sunday), instructor Walter Forsyth will be running Intro to Producing Bootcamp in person at FilmPEI in Charlottetown. Over 2.5 days (15 hours of instruction) Walter will do a quick review of the material from the videos and then move on to more detailed information.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED:   The Intro to Producing Bootcamp is open to anyone who has participated in or watched the 16 hours of original instruction or has the equivalent knowledge. Register at info@filmpei.com.

FilmPEI is presenting this online workshop series to introduce new producers to the world of producing. In this workshop producer Walter Forsyth will go through all the practical details you should think of when developing and producing a narrative fiction film. Instructor Bio:
Walter Forsyth is the producer of Shandi Mitchell’s feature film, The Disappeared, nominated for two Canadian Screen Awards. He won TIFF’s 2011 Pitch This! award and received a Sundance Doc Fund grant. Walter also produced the Andrea Dorfman/Tanya Davis short “How To Be Alone” and wrote and directed several award winning documentaries including 30 Takes: Three decades of Independent Filmmaking in Atlantic Canada, LSD 25 and Nova Scotia Folk Art. As the Executive Director of The Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative Walter founded the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival. He’s also has worked as a programmer for the Atlantic Film Festival and has been on the board of directors at the Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival and DOC Atlantic. Walter teaches film studies and is the Development Coordinator at Lunenburg Doc Fest.
